Progress power metal band Ascendancy was established in 2008 as a brainchild of Libor Kukula, at that time guitarist of Abstract Essence. Originally, the band was intended to be Libor's death metal side-project to his activities in AE. However, toward the end of 2008, Libor left the ranks of AE for good and Ascendancy thereby became his main band. After recording of few demo tracks, it was clear that the initial death metal intent will be in the end a progressive metal project. After formation of complete lineup, the band released in Summer 2009 its debut EP "The Primacy Of Reason".
