Pestilence

Pestilence
The iconic Dutch death metal band Pestilence was formed in 1986, originally as a trash metal group. After the first two demos, “Dysentery” (1986) and “The Penance” (1987), the band managed to sign a deal with Roadrunner Records, under which the debut album “Malleus Maleficarum” was released in 1988. A year later, after a lineup change on the guitarist post, the second album “Consuming Impulse” followed and meant a turning point for Pestilence, as they left the trash metal waters and entered the death metal domain, among the fans of which the band quickly gained international recognition. In 1991, the third studio album “Testimony Of The Ancients” came to live and is regarded as the best-produced piece in the band’s discography. Two years later, its successor was released, the album “Spheres”, which is more experimental and contains for example jazz fusion elements. As the popularity of Pestilence grew, so did the dissentions among the band members. The situation culminated in 1994, when the band decided to split. In that same year, a best of album “Mind Reflections” was released as the last creation. Four years later, still a re-release of the debut “Malleus Maleficarum” came out, and in 2006 a compilation live album “Chronicles of the Scourge” was born. During that time however, the band itself remained inactive. The rebirth of Pestilence occurred in 2008. With an old-new lineup, the band recorded a new material that followed the trends laid forth on the previous albums “Testimony…” and “Spheres”. This material was then released in 2009 on the current album “Resurrection Macabre”.
